A few weeks ago, it felt like January and it was April. Then a week later, it felt like July. We never had a gentle, mild spring. Mother Nature’s hot flashes were killing me. And now what looks to be a raging act of PMS, today she literally blew a 100 acre fire into 3000+ acres of damage in the Santa Cruz mountains, with winds rocking at 40 MPH–only 10 miles from my home!
I think Mother Nature needs some Prozac.
Ah, but living in the mountains isn’t that bad. I have these guys visiting me every day:
And this guy once in a while:
And sometimes these guys who aren’t so bad. Kind of remind me of the dingo:
And I’ve seen one of these guys only about 3 miles away from my house:
but they keep to themselves, from what I hear.
But then there’s this guy, who came in uninvited, and perched himself next to my office:
And to top it off, this guy:
who rudely took a ride on my jacket while I was checking the water levels in our tanks today to make sure we had enough water to douse our house in the event the fire came our direction. He made like a vampire and bite me on the neck! And the worst part was I didn’t even get to go mountain biking in order for this creepy critter to catch a ride on me. Of all the things on this list, the tick is the creepiest. Though I showered and scrubbed, I’m still having paranoid itches everywhere.
Are you sure you want to visit me?
Update: May 23, 2008: My editor said I forgot this guy who also visits:

Gotta make sure my stories are accurate or my editor may fire me.

hell, yeah, we’re still visiting…
so glad you and your pad are okay
Marsy, do you work for a company that manufactuers “unmentionables” or markets something, say indiscrete? Your comments keep ending up in my spam blocker.
we market educashun…and idleness…here at UC
Ah, that xplanes it. Wild Dingo spam blocker prefers dum and busy commenters.
I’m dumb busy. I hope that editor didn’t have to take me off the varmit side of your guest list. Sounds like the hot flashes are cooling off, keep us informed.
No ERT for momma nature… the rain is good…wet pavement in Berkeley this AM. Hope all is still OK out your way.
they say there is light rain now @ summit & SJ-Soquel rd
Great to hear that you, hubby and dingos’ are safe…..how scary. It’s raining pretty hard here, so maybe it will go your direction and spare anymore tragedy to the area.
Ticks are yukky, all of those other critters, I can handle.

I love the comparison of Mother Nature and Menopause, PMS, Etc. Why not, she is old enough!
FYI Gorillas in the Chicago zoo are in their 50′s and showing symptoms of menopause. Poor girls, that is a lot of hair.
Thanks Haralee! Sometimes I wonder if everyone in Northern California got their car washed on the day of the fire, if Mother Nature would have prefered to downpour on us instead of gusting us with winds!
