The Methodology of Shoe Tasting

The Methodology of Shoe Tasting

Recently, I went to a wine tasting in Lausanne. Scratch that. It was a wine appreciation because they served hors d'ouvres with each wine to help understand how wine flavor can be balanced with food. I don't know much about how to taste wine or pair it with food, so it was a great experience.  Who knew you could taste umami in wine? Who knows what umami actually is?

I took home lots of tips and have been experimenting ever since.

Yesterday, Juno demonstrated a similar methodology for her reputable masticatory appreciation of shoes, with one of Mr. Wild Dingo's flip flops.

"This is a light shoe, with a crisp taste of polyurethane, a soft bouquet of gazon-verte and strong overtone of Poppy* tannins. Sadly, it is not a Dansko."

*Poppy the Mr. Wild Dingo. Not Poppy the seed.
For those wondering:  the Danskos are still in one piece. Nine days to go.

  1. I'm thinking the Danskos have been hidden in the deep dark recesses of some closet until Day 180 passes... Just saying... 😉

-Dr. Liz (whose dogs cannot be trusted off leash, but have yet *knocks on wood* to start noshing on shoes...)

  2. Hee hee! It's good to see Juno hasn't given up her taste for shoes completely. I mean, really, how entertaining would that be for us out here reading the blog? She looks like a true connoisseur!

  3. LOL too funny. Bet Juno is much better at the tasting than you right now.

You also asked about the table in agility. From my understanding (and I'm just the cheerleader). The table is there to show that you can control your dog and get them to stop and calm in the middle. They used to have to either sit or down on the table (decision on which one was made by the judge) and they have to wait 5 seconds. Now they just have to get on the table for 5 seconds they don't have to sit or down anymore which is better b/c a lot of people would lose a lot of time if they dog wouldn't down.

  4. Sheesh, we have been wondering about the Danskos - we lost that one a very lonnnnnnnnnngggggggggg time ago. Thanks for the new word we learned -had no clue what umami was!

  5. I want Juno to teach Mint how to appreciate humans' shoes! Mint starts chewing on and destroying them without appreciating them, as soon as he picks them up from the floor! I think that, if he destroys shoes, he should appreciate them in some way, at least!

  6. i'm certain the flipflops have a furry vibrant ripeness to them.. just an hors d'œuvre to the real deal- DANSKOs!!!

come on juno- time is ticking!

  7. Thanks for the comment on my biking post. I don't think he overheated either, but he pants so quick and shallow that it freaked me out at the moment. I think rinsing his feet did help cool him a bit quicker though. 🙂

I think Storm's stride is cute too. She's so floaty. Jackal looks weird when he trots. He's so front heavy. I don't care if he's dorky though. 🙂 I'm glad Juno's stride is getting better. I'm just so happy you've found a method that builds the correct muscles to make her more comfortable.

That's awesome that she called off the other dog for you. It just takes some time, but eventually you'll be able to take them both together. I actually let Storm pull me a little sometimes (taught her to pull in harness years and years ago), but not too much because it's dangerous. I don't normally take the camera and I don't normally have the hand holding the leash on the handlebar so I can drop them if necessary to prevent a wipe out. 🙂

  8. I can't wait to see your Sunday Stills pictures. Don't forget to leave the link in a comment on the Sunday Stills blog so everyone else can see them when you get them up. 🙂

umami- momma (her uncultured self) remembers that episode of Friends that's her extensive experience with it. Hee hee but I bet the hint of Poppy tanned leather would pair nicely with a bottle of chickianti
