La Dolce Vita

Our cultural trainer and advisor recently emailed me to follow up on how we were doing.  She was pleased to hear I had started cooking and finding my creativity again. She was writing from Milan where she had taken time to appreciate "the sweet life" and "la bella figura." She herself had been inspired to "refuse to live ugly"--in the sense of living without elegance and style.  Now that inspired me. It's funny how inspirations inspire more inspirations.

The Tulip festival in Morges is currently underway now through mid-May.  The park is packed with blooming tulips.

Loki and Juno and I are lucky enough to get quiet time in the park during the middle of the week when you rarely see a soul.

On Sunday,  Mr. Wild Dingo joined us on the walk to Morges. "I want to see the tulips," he said.

The park was already packed with tourists though the festival was not officially underway nor were all the tulips in bloom.  We managed to get in a few shots with fewer people in them.  The festival, held over four weeks,  is visited by over 100,000 people per year. Each weekend there are concerts, horse and carriage rides, food and tulip bulbs are given away at the end of the festival.

Loki never takes his eyes or ears off Mr. Wild Dingo, or his head may explode if the pack is separated. I indulge his need to lock his eyes on Mr. Wild Dingo, lest he have a melt down in public. Juno? She's all, "Poppy, who? Now where is that lovely aroma a fresh baked French bread coming from?"

Mr. Wild Dingo took this shot. He's good at everything.

Four tourists stopped us to snap pictures of Loki and Juno. That always cracks me up.

Isn't she the cutest most adorable little girl? I'm not even a "kid person" but I just could eat her up. She had just finished talking sweet nothings with grand arm gestures to this beautiful bed of attentive tulips. Now we know Morges' secret to beatiful tulips!

Astute readers will note a few small changes to the blog. I sure can't pull the wool over your eyes. Don't worry. I haven't completely gone completely Swiss-clean-n-simple. I'm still the same old snarky chick with two punk dogs.  Change is good. I was inspired to simplify and beautify.  Hope you enjoy the new layout.

  1. How very beautiful!!! Simple yet elegant! Great photos too - all of them, not just Mr. Wild Dingo's masterpiece.

  2. I do like the new layout!

People take pictures of Bunny and Blueberry when we take them out places, too! It cracks me up as well. Morgan would be more photogenic if she could sit still longer than a gnat hair of a second.

I am always in envy of people who have tulip fields! I wish we had one nearby every year. Juno and Loki look amazing there!

  3. The tulips are gorgeous! And, you were both such good pups for not digging in them!

The new look of the blog is very cool!!!

  5. Tulips?!? Need I even BOTHER to mention that it is snowing again. Sleeting, actually, but it is supposed to turn in to snow by this afternoon... Which means more riding inside on the trainer. However, I have convinced the husband to watch Star Trek with me (the original series episodes being 45 minutes - which is exactly the length of his hill workout on the treadmill!) rather than CNN, so I'm starting to find my inner peace. 🙂

And yes, the layout is proof that you've lived in Switzerland too long. But with tulips and cycling weather, I'm failing to see how this is a bad thing! 😉

  6. What incredible tulips!! The colours almost don't seem real! Wow! And so nice that they let you take dogs...a lot of these "fancy gardens" often don't!
